We are the UK's biggest mixed youth organisation. We change lives by offering 6 to 25-year-olds fun and challenging activities, unique experiences, everyday adventure and the chance to help others so that we make a positive impact in communities.

Join 1st Sedgley Scout Group

Although we wish we could enrol every young person who would like to join 1st Sedgley, we have limited spaces, so this is, unfortunately, not possible. Our volunteers work tirelessly to ensure as many young people as possible can join us. Our selection procedures are detailed below to provide fair and transparent enrolment.

How to join

Volunteer

There are lots of ways you can get more involved with Scouts. From helping out occasionally on a family rota or playing a vital role behind the scenes, to stepping up as a leader, our volunteering activities are as varied as you.

We’re talking tidy uppers and tea makers, session planners and Zoom navigators, fundraisers and treasurers, and all-round team players to support our young people.

About our Waiting Lists

We have waiting lists for every section, so we encourage you to reach out to other local groups that will have a shorter waiting list. They can be found here. Young people not between the ages stated will be automatically rejected, without notice. Additionally, each waiting list is independent and young people will not be automatically moved on.

Current Waiting list length
  • Squirrels: 6 – 12 months
  • Beavers: 6 – 18 months
  • Cubs: 6 – 18 months
  • Scouts: We have extremely limited opportunities to move young people into our troop, due to ensuring the age distribution within the troop is sustainable. We cannot provide an accurate estimate of the waiting list duration. We highly recommend looking for other scout groups here.

Joining 1st Sedgley

Squirrels

If the current young person is between birth and 7 years old.

Squirrels

The Squirrels Section is where most young people start their scouting journey with us; however, we are currently oversubscribed. To account for that, we have a ‘waiting list’ that you can join. Once on our waiting list, the young person will be in line to enter our section once we have availability. We prioritise prospective members according to this criterion, once they are of joining age:

  • Siblings of members in 1st Sedgley Scout Group
  • Legacies of 1st Sedgley
  • Children of volunteers
  • Alumni of 1st Sedgley Scout Group
  • Members transferring from other Scout Groups
  • Date of registration on our waiting list

These criteria are designed to offer as many young people as possible the opportunity to join while also ensuring the longevity of 1st Sedgley.

Beavers

If the current young person is between birth and 7 years old.

Beavers

Although most members join Squirrels, some join us in Beavers. Beavers hold a ‘waiting list’ that prospective members can be added to and join the section when a space becomes available. Prioritisation is determined on the following criteria, once they are of age:

  • Young people progressing from 1st Sedgley Squirrels
  • Siblings of members in 1st Sedgley Scout Group
  • Legacies of 1st Sedgley
  • Children of volunteers
  • Alumni of 1st Sedgley Scout Group
  • Members transferring from other Scout Groups
  • Date of registration on our waiting list

These criteria are designed to offer as many young people as possible the opportunity to join while also ensuring the longevity of 1st Sedgley.

Cubs

If the current young person is between 7 and 9 years old

Cubs

Although most members join Beavers or Squirrels, some join us in Cubs. Cubs hold a ‘waiting list’ that prospective members can be added to and join the section when a space becomes available. Prioritisation is determined on the following criteria, once they are of age:

  • Young people progressing from 1st Sedgley Beavers
  • Siblings of members
  • Children of volunteers
  • Alumni of 1st Sedgley Scout Group
  • Legacies of 1st Sedgley
  • Members transferring from other Scout Groups.
  • Date of registration on our waiting list

These criteria are designed to offer as many young people as possible the opportunity to join while also ensuring the longevity of 1st Sedgley.

Scouts

If the current young person is between 9 and 12 years old

Scouts

Although most members join the younger sections, some join us in Scouts. Scouts hold a ‘waiting list’ that prospective members can be added to and join the section when a space becomes available. Prioritisation is determined on the following criteria, once they are of age:

  • Young people progressing from 1st Sedgley Cubs.
  • Siblings of members
  • Children of volunteers
  • Alumni of 1st Sedgley Scout Group
  • Legacies of 1st Sedgley
  • Members transferring from other Scout Groups.
  • Date of registration on our waiting list

These criteria are designed to offer as many young people as possible the opportunity to join while also ensuring the longevity of 1st Sedgley.

Explorers

If the current young person is between 13 and 16 years old

Contact the Explorers

Beacon Explorer Scouts is a cross-district section that primarily takes scouts from 1st and 3rd Sedgley Scout Groups. Admittance is determined independently from 1st Sedgley; however, our members do get priority when moving from Scouts to Explorers.
