Joining Prioritisation

Although we wish we could enrol every young person that would like to become a member of 1st Sedgley, we do have limited spaces, so this is, unfortunately, not possible. Our volunteers work tirelessly to ensure as many young people as possible can join us. To provide fair and transparent enrolment, our selection procedure is detailed below.

Beavers

The beaver Section is where most young people start there scouting journey with us from; however, we are currently oversubscribed. To account for that, we have a ‘waiting list’ that you can join. Once on our waiting list, the young person will be in-line to join our section once we have availability. We prioritise prospective members according to this criteria, once they are of joining age:

  • Siblings of members in 1st Sedgley Scout Group
  • Children of 1st Sedgley Alumni
  • Children of volunteers
  • Date of registration on our waiting list

This criteria is designed to offer as many young people the opportunity to join while also ensuring the longevity of 1st Sedgley.

Cubs and Scouts

Although most members join in Beavers, some do join us in Cubs and Scouts. These sections hold a ‘waiting list’ that prospective members can be added to and to join the section when a space becomes available. Prioritisation is determined on the following criteria, once they are of age:

  • Young people progressing from 1st Sedgley Beavers or Cubs respectively.
  • Siblings of members or alumni of 1st Sedgley Scout Group
  • Children of 1st Sedgley Alumni
  • Children of volunteers
  • Members transferring from other Scout Groups.
  • Date of registration on our waiting list

This criteria is designed to offer as many young people the opportunity to join as possible whilst ensuring current members can continue their scouting journey and that the longevity of 1st Sedgley is secure.

Explorer Scouts

Beacon Explorer Scouts is a cross-district section that primarily takes scouts from the Dudley district scout groups. Admittance is determined by the following criteria, once the young person if of age.

  • Young people progressing from a Dudley district Scout section
  • Children of our long-standing volunteers
  • Siblings of members in Beacon Explores or Dudley district Scout groups
  • Members transferring from Scout Groups outside of Dudley.
  • Date of registration on our waiting list

This criteria is designed to offer as many young people the opportunity to join as possible whilst ensuring current members can continue their scouting journey and that the longevity of Beacon Explores is secure.
